Former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared his support for Governor Francis Nwifuru’s re-election in 2027.
Umahi made this announcement on Friday while hosting members of the Izzi National Youth Forum at his Umunagu Uburu residence in Ohaozara Local Government Area during a Christmas visit.
He praised the Izzi youths, led by their National President, Barrister Andrew Chibueze Elom, for the unexpected festive visit and expressed gratitude for their loyalty and support. Umahi assured them of his unwavering backing for Nwifuru’s second term, drawing parallels to his own two-term tenure as governor and those of his predecessors.
“Thank you for this surprise visit. While I anticipated it, I didn’t expect it on this scale. That you left Governor Nwifuru to visit me today shows great respect, but know that I am committed to ensuring his full eight years in office. Nothing will disrupt this covenant,” Umahi said.
He emphasized his readiness to defend and support Nwifuru, stating: “I faced principalities and powers alone in the past and won. With someone like him by my side, I am confident of success. Governor Nwifuru is humble, and until he completes his term, my support remains unwavering.”
Earlier, Barrister Andrew Elom commended Umahi for keeping his promise to transfer the governorship seat to an Izzi son. He urged Umahi to continue mentoring Governor Nwifuru throughout his administration to ensure stability and avoid missteps.
“Your Excellency, we thank you for fulfilling your promise to hand over power to an Izzi man. We also plead with you to remain a guiding figure for Governor Nwifuru, providing the support and encouragement he needs to lead successfully,” Elom stated.
