Senator Emma Nwaka, a former chairman of the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), six months after resigning from the PDP.
Nwaka, who represented Abia North in the National Assembly during the aborted 3rd Republic, was a contender for the PDP’s governorship ticket in the 2023 general elections.
Serving as the PDP’s leader from 2010 to 2015, Nwaka’s move follows similar defections by prominent former members, including the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, to the APC.
The defection was confirmed through a viral photograph showing Nwaka receiving his APC membership card from the Oguduasa Ward 5 APC chairman, Sampson Achi Ndukwe. The image also featured Udochi Okorie, the APC chairman for Isuikwuato Local Government Area, along with other party officials.
Attempts by LEADERSHIP to directly confirm the news from Nwaka, who is also a legal practitioner, were unsuccessful. However, a close associate revealed that “he is now a broom carrier,” confirming his switch to the APC.
