The Abia State House of Assembly has called on the Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, to issue an apology over an alleged assault on Kalu Mba Nwoke, a legislator representing the Ohafia South constituency.
The resolution came after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by Godwin Adiele, representing Ukwa West constituency. Adiele emphasized that the matter was not merely personal to Nwoke, but a question of preserving the sanctity and respect of the legislative arm.
Supporting the motion, Solomon Akpulonu, representing Obingwa East and the most senior member of the Assembly, expressed disapproval of the reported incident. He stressed the importance of mutual respect among the three arms of government and urged maturity in handling conflicts.
Kalu Mba Nwoke, the chairman of the House Committee on Environment and Urban Renewal, alleged that the incident occurred during the November 2 local government elections at the Ohafia council headquarters.
The directive from the Assembly underscores the need for accountability and respect in the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.
