Residents of Enugu State on Monday 24TH July 2023 protested against continuous sit-at-home enforcement by the Indigenous People of Biafra in the state on Mondays.
SOUTH EAST DAILY got report that the Enugu State Government had called on residents to ignore Monday’s sit-at-home order by the IPOB.
Though the IPOB has disassociated self from the sit-at-home order.
The government urged residents to go out and carry out their normal business activities, reiterating its earlier ban on sit-at-home.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Onyia, reiterated that sit-at-home was illegal, adding that Governor Peter Mbah had said any business would refuse to open in the name of observing sit-at-home risked being permanently shut.
“The Enugu State Government wishes to remind the good people and residents of the state that the ban on the illegal Monday sit-at-home order remains effective.
“Given this, civil servants, schools, markets, financial institutions, business premises, and others are hereby directed to resume normal activities on Monday,” the SSG said.
Armed with placards with various inscriptions, the residents were seen protesting against the illegal sit-at-home order, which they claimed has paralysed economic activities.
One of the inscriptions read: “We no longer meet up with our hire purchase because of sit-at-home.”
